Friday
Ready, set….. GO!
All was in readiness. The church was beautifully decorated, the witnesses
were all safely in Nassau, the parish hall was ready to host the first
event. While the attendance committee had done it job to invite
parishioners to the event, it had been stressed that members of the parish
were not obligated to attend so there was no telling what number of persons
would show up. Needless to say, God’s Holy Spirit had something
special
planned for the people of St. George’s this weekend. Evidence of
that came
very early in the activities, as the parish hall could not hold, in one
sitting, all those persons who came to partake in the light supper.
Supported by members of the parish of the Most Holy Trinity, the Food
Committee served a sumptuous meal prior to the start of the evening’s
service.
When all was in readiness, the music team, headed by Philip Gray, Fr.
Mark
Fox (the parish’s curate) and Larry Saunders on guitar, led the
congregation
in a series of Praise and Worship songs. “What a mighty God we serve”,
“This
is Holy Ground” and other songs raised the roof of the church as
visitors
and parishioners alike praised and thank God for the opportunities provide
to the parish to minister among his people and in anticipation of new
work
from the Faith Alive experience.
“Look at da people” was the exclamation from the People’s
Warden, as she
welcomed one and all to much anticipated weekend. “We praise and
thank God
for each and everyone of you who have taken this time to be with us.”
said
Mrs. Fountain. As she introduced the weekend’s coordinator and his
team,
staff members were brining in chairs to accommodate the overflow crowd.
At various point during the service the kids and youth of the parish
moved
to the parish hall and the D. W. Davis School for their respective programs.
While visiting witnesses were telling of their experiences in the church,
the more than sixty young people moved to the quadrangle of the neighboring
school to hear from Elizabeth Grant, Christina Moseley and John Michael
Clarke, coordinators of the Teen program.
Meanwhile, adult members of the parish were broken up into small groups
so
that the real work of the weekend could begin. After introductions were
made plans for the design of effective ministry in the parish were underway.
They would continue during Saturday’s meetings as well.
In total, more than three hundred parish members took part in the opening
night’s activities: sixty teenagers, twenty-five kids, and two hundred
and
fifty adults.
