Saturday
Saturday Neighborhood Groups
We’re Taking It On The Road
It was an early morning rise for the visiting and host team on Saturday,
September 28th. After prayers and moments of praise and worship the day’s
agenda was discussed. We would take our ministry to the homes of the
parishioners. Sixteen homes would be the center for the Neighborhood
Groups meeting. “This was a special part of the weekend for me”
said Mrs.
Paula Balfour, who attended the neighborhood group hosted by Ms. Ruth
Knowles. “It lasted approximately ninety minutes, but within that
time we
got the opportunity to talk about things most meaningful in our lives
and
the direction we wanted to see our parish go.”
“This was really the beginning of a real outreach effort,”
said Louise
Barry, chairperson of the Faith Alive follow-up committee. “We have
already
held our first leadership seminar in preparation for cell groups which
will
soon be established in the parish. These cell groups will operate in the
homes of our members and will expand ministry among our people.”
Youth activities for Saturday
The kids and Teen programs were also underway early Saturday morning.
“In
our group, led by Mrs. Grant, we discussed the need to preserve our bodies
as a temple for the Lord,’” said Kevin Turnquest, former president
of the
CYM. “It was very interesting to listen to young speak about God
in their
lives as Philip Gray did to our group.” The groups’ discussions
ended with
a bible scavenger hunt. The youth activities ended with one big pizza
party.
Men and Women's Lunch
By noon the church grounds were active again as people gathered from
their
neighborhood groups for lunch and fellowship. It was during this time
that
the men and ladies of the parish met in separate session to bond and discuss
matters particular to them. At 2:00 PM both sessions closed and the
witnesses, accompanied by our pastoral staff, went to visit the sick and
shut-in of the parish.
Saturday evening
Another Good Evening
Another good time was underway for those who returned to church for the
evening sessions. However, we began seeing our own parishioners witnessing
to us. It was unlike anything that had been done in St. George’s
before.
The Kids, led my Rosie Ernest-Jones did a skit based on the need to share
our lives with one another. It was well received by the congregation.
Meanwhile the parish teenagers had gathered once again, this time in
three
groups, to discuss the Christian Faith. “I could’t imagine
that we would
have so many young people out this weekend”, said Andrew Knowles,
President
of the Christian Youth Movement. “We thought that we would have
a decent
number, so we are encouraged that so many have taken time out and would
be
willing to participate in Faith Alive.”
The adults of the parish were meeting in 17 different groups in a lively
discussion on their spiritual autobiography. “It was a time to talk
about
what we wanted our relationship with Jesus Christ to be,” Harriet
Ingraham
said. “These small groups enabled us to have frank conversation
about your
spiritual journey, our understanding of the Christian Faith and our
willingness to make a deeper commitment to Christ.”
